Healthy, glowing skin doesn’t necessarily need a shelf full of products. Sometimes, it needs less — but better.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought:

“My skin just looks tired.”

Perhaps it feels tight after cleansing. Maybe your complexion looks dull, fine lines seem more noticeable, or your skin simply doesn’t have that fresh, plump appearance it once did.

I see this quite often in my work at MindBody Oasis.

People come to me with skin that looks tired, stressed and under-moisturised. And when we talk about their skincare routine, I often hear one of two things:

“I don’t really have a routine.”

Or:

“I’ve got so many products, I don’t know what I’m supposed to be using!”

And honestly? I understand.

The beauty industry can make skincare feel incredibly complicated. Serums, acids, toners, exfoliators, masks, oils, boosters, retinols… It can become overwhelming — and sometimes products simply sit unused in the bathroom cabinet.

But beautiful, healthy-looking skin doesn’t have to be complicated.

As we age, our skin needs a little more help

As we move through our 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, our skin naturally changes. It can become thinner and drier and lose water more easily. Dermatologists note that by around 60, dry skin is extremely common.

This doesn’t mean we should be fighting against ageing.

I actually prefer to think about it differently.

We want to support our skin as it changes.

Good skincare can help maintain the skin’s protective barrier, improve comfort and help skin look smoother, softer and more radiant.

And hydration is a big part of that.

Hydration isn’t just about drinking more water

We often think about hydration from the inside — and that’s absolutely important.

Drinking enough fluid is particularly important during warmer weather, when we can lose more water through sweating. The NHS highlights dehydration as one of the key risks during hot weather.

But hydrating your body and hydrating your skin aren’t quite the same thing.

Your skin also needs support from the outside.

Moisturisers work partly by helping to reduce water loss from the skin and supporting its protective barrier. As we get older, our skin may need more assistance to retain moisture.

And this is becoming increasingly relevant here in the UK.

We’re experiencing warmer periods and more frequent spells of very hot weather. Add sunshine, outdoor activity, sweating, air conditioning, fans and sometimes simply forgetting to drink enough, and our skin can certainly feel the effects.

Think of your skin barrier as part of your body’s protective covering. When it’s well supported, skin is better able to hold onto moisture and cope with everyday environmental stresses.

My approach? Keep it simple.

I’m approaching 62 myself — and I still find people are surprised when I tell them my age.

Of course, I’m not going to pretend that skincare is the only reason.

Nutrition, hydration, movement, sleep, stress levels, smoking, alcohol, sun exposure, lifestyle and genetics can all influence how we look and feel as we age.

But I do believe that good skincare has an important place alongside all of those things.

And my own skincare routine is surprisingly simple.

My daily routine

Morning

ageLOC® LumiSpa®
My cleansing and skin-renewal step.

Followed by:

Nutricentials® Moisturize Me
For daytime hydration and moisture.

Max Factor Skin Improving Tinted Moisturiser with SPF 35
For extra hydration and protection from the sun and to mask any liver spots

Evening

Again, I use my ageLOC® LumiSpa® as my cleansing step or the Zone Face Lift foaming cleanser.

Nutricentials® Pillow Glow Sleeping Mask
My favourite “drink of water” for the skin overnight.

And that’s it.

No bathroom cabinet overflowing with products.

No complicated 10-step routine.

Just a few products that I use consistently. And every 3-4 days I use the ageLOC Boost device and serum (which you can benefit from by having a regular monthly or biweekly ageLOC Deluxe Transformation Facial (now £10 off before end September 2026).

Why I love Pillow Glow

If your skin is looking tired, dull, stressed or simply lacking that lovely fresh, plump feeling, Nutricentials Pillow Glow Sleeping Mask is one product I particularly enjoy.

It’s a gel-cream sleeping mask designed to be applied as the last step of your evening skincare routine and left on overnight. It doesn’t need to be washed off in the morning.

And there’s some interesting data behind it.

In a third-party assessment, a single application resulted in:

+207% hydration shortly after application
+150% hydration after 8 hours
Continuous moisturisation for up to 24 hours

The study was relatively small — so I wouldn’t suggest these numbers mean everyone will experience exactly the same result — but they certainly help explain why this product has become such a favourite of mine.

I love the fact that I can apply it before bed, let it absorb while I sleep and wake up with skin that feels softer, more supple and refreshed.

NuSkin recommends using it 2–3 times a week or as needed, but I use it daily.

Pillow Glow

And I’m not the only one noticing the difference…

One of my clients, who has been using Pillow Glow for several months now, told me:

“I have noticed a significant difference to my skin, it’s much more plumper and softer.”

She has also incorporated Nutricentials moisturiser into her daily routine and says:

“My skin feels and looks so much better since using NuSkin products.”

What about the LumiSpa?

This is the product I particularly recommend to clients who want to make cleansing and caring for their skin a little more of a ritual.

The ageLOC LumiSpa combines cleansing with a gentle silicone treatment head and NuSkin’s Micropulse Oscillation technology. According to NuSkin’s product information, studies have found improvements in areas including softness, smoothness, brightness, radiance and the appearance of pores with consistent use.

But for me, there’s another benefit.

Consistency.

It’s very easy to say we’re going to look after our skin — and then rush through cleansing at night when we’re tired.

Having a simple device that takes just 2 minutes (works similar to an electric toothbrush in terms of an in-built timer) makes cleansing feel like a little self-care ritual can make it much easier to stick with a routine.

And that’s really what I want for my clients:

not more products — better habits.

Could your skin be asking for a little more hydration?

Take a moment to look at your skin.

Does it feel:

  • Tight or uncomfortable after cleansing?
  • Dull or lacking radiance?
  • Rough rather than smooth?
  • Less plump than it used to?
  • Tired or stressed-looking?
  • More lined when you’re tired or dehydrated?
  • Difficult to manage because you’re using too many different products?

If so, perhaps your skin doesn’t need another complicated regime.

Perhaps it needs you to simplify, hydrate and become consistent.

And remember that persistent dryness, irritation or changes in your skin shouldn’t simply be put down to ageing. If you’re concerned about your skin, it’s always worth speaking to your GP, pharmacist or dermatologist.

My simple MindBody Oasis approach

For anyone feeling overwhelmed by skincare, I like to bring it back to the basics:

1. Cleanse

Remove the day’s make-up, dirt, oil and environmental pollutants without unnecessarily stripping the skin.

2. Moisturise

Give your skin regular support to maintain moisture and its protective barrier.

3. Hydrate overnight

Use a richer hydration step when your skin needs that extra boost.

4. Protect

Don’t forget your SPF. UV exposure is one of the major environmental contributors to premature skin ageing, so daily sun protection remains an important part of any healthy-ageing skincare routine.

5. Support from within

Drink enough fluid, eat nourishing alkaline foods, move your body, sleep well where possible and find ways to manage stress (enquire about the free online Mind and Body Wellness sessions I help run every Saturday morning at 8am with Unity in Health Cymru CIC or my free weekly Sunday meditations online).

Healthy skin is part of healthy ageing — and healthy ageing is about so much more than how we look.
